Our client is a respected, privately owned tourism business located in the vibrant city of San Diego. An opportunity has arisen to appoint a new CFO who will lead the financial strategy and management of the business and implement improvements to processes and systems. The CFO will be both operational and strategic in their approach and will bring more rigour and control within the finance function. The CFO will harness analytics to drive company performance and prepare the business for a potential exit.
The role will suit an experienced CFO who has a track record in corporate finance, executing growth strategies and ensuring robust process and control is in place. The CFO will be an integral member of the executive team and will play a pivotal role in driving the financial strategy and performance of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Further develop and implement improvements to financial strategies ensuring alignment with the company’s overall objectives, including revenue growth, profitability, and exit strategy.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and produce robust financial forecasts.
- Identify key drivers of financial performance and opportunities for improvement with a plan to implement improvements.
- Build and develop a high-performing finance team, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Mentor the finance team providing oversight the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial reports ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk management practices and implement robust controls.
- Manage cash flow and liquidity to support ongoing operations and strategic initiatives, optimizing working capital and capital allocation decisions.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, laws, and standards, including tax compliance, GAAP, and industry-specific regulations.
- Serve as a key liaison with external stakeholders, including investors, lenders, auditors, and regulatory authorities, fostering positive relationships and transparent communication.
- In partnership with the executive team prepare the business for a potential exit.
Qualifications:
- Degree educated, MBA or CPA preferred.
- Proven experience (10+ years) in senior finance roles, with significant experience in financial management, planning, and analysis, preferably in the tourism, hospitality, or leisure industry.
- Experience in corporate finance.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and leading high-performing finance teams.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights and recommendations for business growth and optimization.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with executives, board members, and external stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on attention to detail and accuracy, combined with the ability to think creatively and problem-solve in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in financial management software and tools, as well as advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
