Interim Director of Finance/Accounting, Chicago, Illinois

CFO Recruit is partnering with an established non profit based in Chicago to engage an interim Director of Finance/Accounting. This role would suit a senior Controller, Director of Finance or CFO with deep non profit experience and happy to work in a very hands on capacity aswell as supporting the CEO strategically. This is a part time position working approximately 20 hours per week for 2/3 months initially but could extend. Our preference is for someone in Chicago who can spend time in the office or someone who can accommodate regular business trips to the office if they are a little further afield. The Director of Finance will have the following responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the organization’s financial strategy, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management. Design and implement a new budget.
- Provide mentoring and develop the finance team coaching them in accounting within a non profit and ensuring a collaborative and efficient department.
- Design and implement new financial reporting and create an insightful dashboard.
- Ensure reporting meets nonprofit accounting standards and maintain compliance with IRS regulations.
- Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures and controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks.
- Provide guidance on annual audits, tax filings, and financial disclosures.
- Partner with the HR Manager to review payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and make recommendations for improvements ensuring compliance with labor laws.
- Present financial reports to the Board of Directors providing insights and recommendations. Support executive leadership in strategic planning.
To be successful in this role the Director Of Finance will have the following experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of nonprofit financial management experience.
- Ability to work in a hands on capacity whilst also operating strategically.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting and financial compliance.
- Proficiency in financial software and experience with system implementations beneficial.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
The rate advertised for this role is a guideline and the rate offered will be commensurate with experience.
