Consultant CFO, Louisiana, Louisiana
posted: 7th October 2026
CFO Recruit is partnering with a large, privately owned and long-established business operating across the oil, gas, fuel and lubricants sector to identify an experienced Consultant CFO for an initial 2–3 month engagement.
This is a consulting and diagnostic assignment rather than a traditional interim CFO role. The successful candidate will work alongside the existing CFO and Fractional CRO to assess the effectiveness of the current finance function, identify opportunities for improvement and provide practical recommendations around best practice, processes, systems and financial analysis.
The engagement will require a significant level of on-site involvement in Louisiana, although it is not expected to be full-time on site throughout the assignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake a comprehensive review and diagnostic of the existing finance function, including current processes, systems, controls and procedures.
- Assess how the business currently analyses, reports and utilises financial information and identify opportunities to improve the quality and effectiveness of financial insight.
- Review existing finance processes and identify inefficiencies, gaps, risks and areas where best practice could be introduced.
- Provide clear, practical recommendations to improve the efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness of the finance function.
- Highlight key areas of risk and opportunity, together with appropriate corrective actions and recommendations.
- Work closely with the fractional CRO and existing CFO to develop a prioritised roadmap for improvements.
- Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to the existing finance function.
- Support the business in implementing agreed improvements and establishing more effective processes and ways of working.
- Deliver tangible value quickly, with the ability to assess the situation, identify priorities and make recommendations from the outset.
The Consultant CFO will have the following experience:
- Significant CFO or senior finance leadership experience within the oil, gas, fuel, energy or lubricants sectors.
- A proven track record of working in a consulting, advisory or fractional CFO capacity, particularly where the remit has involved reviewing and improving an existing finance function.
- Experience assessing finance processes, systems, controls and reporting and implementing improvements.
- Strong commercial and financial analysis skills, with the ability to challenge existing practices and identify opportunities for greater efficiency and accuracy.
- The ability to hit the ground running, quickly understand a complex business and provide practical, commercially focused recommendations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the credibility to work effectively alongside an established CFO and senior leadership team.
- Strong stakeholder management and project management capabilities.
- The flexibility and availability to undertake a significant on-site commitment in Louisiana during the engagement.
